The day includes a fully guided tour of the Hobbiton movie set and we also have a sumptuous lunchtime feast in the Party Marquee. This is followed by a guided tour of the Weta Workshop experience in Auckland.

Our first stop on the way to Hobbiton is a at a small cafe – a chance to get a quick snack or coffee if you need it. Then we are off to Hobbiton, where one of the specialist Hobbiton guides take you on a walking tour around the 44 Hobbit holes. You will get the chance to have a photo in the doorway of a Hobbit house, see the Party Tree and stand by the gate to Bilbo’s house ‘Bag End’ overlooking the whole set to the hills in the distance.
A highlight of the tour is the opportunity to go inside a Hobbit hole. This interactive part of the tour gives you the chance to explore inside a Hobbit home! For example – try out a hobbit sized bed, sit at the dining table and check out the amazing detail that has gone into this creation. You then cross the bridge by the mill to go into the Green Dragon Inn where you can enjoy a complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer before heading to lunch.
The lunch we have at Hobbiton is a sumptuous buffet feast in the themed Party Marquee next to the Green Dragon. Afterwards we’ll give you a $10 souvenir voucher to spend at the Hobbiton gift shop before we head back to Auckland where you are dropped off at the door of the Weta Workshops Unleashed Experience.
You have a 90-minute behind-the-scenes guided tour of three fictional movie projects and see the work that went into creating sets, props and special effects. You have the opportunity to be fully hands-on, with the chance to hammer out armour, create tinfoil models, operate on an alien creature, and walk through a fantastical set featuring a turquoise blue river floor, castle tunnels and grass hillsides.
