Karekare Beach among the best in the world
Congratulations from Bush and Beach to Karekare Beach for being listed by travel company Passport magazine as being one of the top 25 beaches in the world. We have long known of the beauty of this beach and regularly take tours to this magnificent beach on our coast and rainforest tour
The panel of international judges said Karekare Beach gave “the impression of being out at the edge of the world”. The west coast beaches of Auckland are dramatic and give a feeling of being remote yet are only a short drive from central Auckland.
Karekare Beach became famous as one of the filming locations for Jane Campion’s Oscar winning movie ‘The Piano’ in 1983 and its dramatic black sand beach and crashing west coast surf make for an unforgettable location.
